St. George's Centennial Weekend Celebrations
St. George's Anglican Church is celebrating 100 years this weekend. Tonight Diane and I attended the banquet at Ecole Valois. The program included a skit written/directed by Rev. Tracey Smith recalling the very early beginnings of St. George's. A number of long-time faithful members were honoured. Guest speaker was Bishop Peter Mason who had know Rev. David Smith as a young member of his congregation in Halifax and again when he was principal of Wycliffe College and Rev. David Smith was a student. We were seated at a centre table near the stage across from Les and Pat Martin. Les was my former boss at Prince Albert Flight Services. It was nice to have the opportunity to visit with them. Diane and I were married in the old St. George's Church on 1st Street East in 1970. I also regularly attend the weekly Wednesday morning Eucharist Service, picking up longtime faithful member Thomas Settee and assisting in service with reading the Epistle Lesson and acting as Server.
